At the foot of the ancient adobe walls, and seperated from the Bahia Palace by only an alley, Le Riad Des Oliviers has been renovated in the Moroccan tradition and welcomes you to "reign" in an atmosphere of peace and serenity.
24 hr a day check-in
When we arrived in Marrakesh we took taxis to the medina where we were told someone from riad would meet us. I called the riad and they promised to send someone within 10 min. We waited more than 1/2 hr. for someone to arrive and he led us on foot (about a 15 min walk) to the riad. Thankfully we didn't have too much luggage so it was bearable, but if you plan on bringing heavy bags this would be really challenging, especially in the heat of the summer! We learned that the man who came to meet us didn't actually work for the riad and he was someone they had to find last minute to come get us which is why it took so long. Upon our arrival we were led into the lobby area and served tea and Moroccan cookies. There, we filled out our guest forms and discussed dinner options with one of the staff. We had our hearts set on going to the main square, Jemaa El-Fna, for dinner but the staff told us not to go there. Instead, he insisted on meeting us at 8:00 that evening to take us to a good restaurant. This turned out to be a financial nightmare and was not at all what we were hoping for. We had been looking for a decent-priced, local restaurant where Moroccans ate so we could have a real experience of Marrakesh. Instead, the restaurant we ended up at was created just for tourists and was very overpriced. In addition to a fixed price for each person, there were entertainers that went around to each table and expected to receive tips for their performances. We were really disappointed because we felt that we had been forced to go to this restaurant that we weren't interested in. If you stay at this riad, my suggestion would be to be very assertive with the staff and don't let them force you into going to this restaurant (unless of course you really want to do the touristy thing) The riad itself is very charming and decorated beautifully with traditional Moroccan decor. We stayed in a spacious, comfortable suite. The ambiance was very enjoyable but we all felt that the customer service was poor and unprofessional. Overall I would recommend going somewhere else.
I was in a suite with four other girls. The suite was spacious and very pretty. I loved the details of the place. We were welcomed with tea which was nice after a long day of traveling. I loved the terrace. The chair were super comfortable and the little tables were very nice. The only major problem I had with the riad was dinner. We wanted to go to the square, but a worker led us to a restaurant nearby. In the end we paid too much for dinner and we were expected to give money for each of the entertainers. I really liked this restaurant, but if you go be prepared to be lead to this restaurant.
We enjoyed the riad (went in a group of 7 friends); friendly service with tea and breakfast, beautiful suite, great rooftop views, and charming decor. However, the manager made a recommendation of a local restaurant next door, assuring us it was the same price as our already-decided-upon location. It was more than twice as much, and an altogether awkward experience. While we enjoyed the riad, the shady service left a lot to be desired.
