Captivating Magical Marrakesh

Where the past meets the present

The Majorelle Gardens house a collection of plants from the four corners of the earth flourishing among elegant ornamental lakes and an Art Deco villa. Yves Saint Laurent’s ashes were scattered here. You leave this enchanted spot in one of the many horse drawn carriages available in the city and take the inevitable trip to the palm grove. From there, you continue to the Ménara, one of Marrakesh’s symbolic places. This elegant building, which you can recognize by its green tiles, is surrounded by an immense ornamental lake. Marrakshi families come here to enjoy this cool spot during heat waves.

Relaxed Marrakesh

When you arrive back in the “red” city, you can enjoy an ice cream, a pastry or a cool drink in one of the establishments in Guéliz, the modern part of Marrakesh, Luxury shops, banks, tearooms and cafés; the “red” city knows how to reconcile its prestigious past with contemporary dynamism. Marrakesh is a city full of life and enthusiasm as its omnipresent dynamism shows. The traveller will be charmed by his finds, encounters, strolls and picturesque souvenirs. Beaches for every taste

Bordered by the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, Morocco has several thousand kilometers of coast whose landscapes are diverse and beaches welcoming.

Atlantic

The most visited beaches are naturally located not far from cities, especially on the Atlantic coast. But there are hundreds of others in places where nature has remained unspoilt. They all make it possible to sample the joys of swimming, relaxing and the latest water sports. On the Atlantic coast, the great majority of beaches appear as long strips of fine sand lapped by the ocean waves. They will be hotter the further south you go until you reach the sublimeDakhla Bay. The north-east trade wind blows regularly from the end of March to mid-September on this corner of the coast: ideal conditions for practicing all board sports, especially surfing. Whether you’re a fan of windsurfing, kitesurfing, surfing, wakeboarding or jet skiing, you can sure you will find the right waves here.

Mediterranean

On the more divided up coast of the Mediterranean, between Tangier and Al Hoceima, the sea is warm and calm and the beaches more intimate. Some are close to small traditional fishing villages, tucked into corners of idyllic nature. At the same time, new seaside resorts are springing up such asTamuda Bay, on the outskirts of Tétouan and Saidia, which is a new Mediterranean coast resort. Facing Andalusia, Mediterrania-Saida extends over 1700 acres with a 6km seafront of white sand. A pleasure port and an 18-hole golf course complete this site which has been developed next to two international airports. The Atlantic is not sitting on its laurels either with new resorts such as Lixus, Mazagan, Taghazout and Plage Blanche.

Fes Music Festival A Hit

The Fes Music Festival was a huge hit. We traveled to Fes and the weather, which is usually very hot, treated us with mercy – very cool. Fes did a great job of taking care of the tourists who came to enjoy this multicultural event. Morocco has just finished hosting both the Mawazine Music festival www.maroccultures.ma/and the Fes Sacred Music Festival with amazing accuracy and without problems. Congratulations to Morocco and all the tourists who enjoyed the festivities.

Good News – Tourists Still Coming

Marrakech Explosion – One Perspective (reposted)

My family and I have eaten at the Argana Cafe a few time and my travels have allowed me to stop and eat there another half a dozen as well. Our hearts break for and we send our condolences out to the families of the loved ones lost in this horrific act against humanity last Thursday, April 28, 2011. It appears that the assailant chose this target to make a huge statement and to bring fear into those future travelers coming to Marrakech. While this raises our vigilance, we will still travel to Marrakech as there are so many other places to enjoy other than the Djemma El Fna Square. In fact, we are taking our whole family (3 kids under 4) to Marrakech this coming week. It appears to me that if more attacks persist, then it will show the strength of the ones who perpetrate such crimes. However, if we see a long cessation then one possible conclusion is that this could be the climax and farthest extension of their reach. Since the last major terrorist event in May of 2003 in Casablanca (killing 35 people as I recall), the local authorities have seemed to put their best resources forward to crack down and prevent these types of actions.
